#52 Lila Tristram - Leaving Song

Having been described as “the female Bon Iver” by BBC Producer Claire Slevin, Lila Tristram has received critical acclaim from some of Britain’s top radio presenters and industry professionals including 6 Music’s Jon Hillcock, Amazing Radio’s Charlie Ashcroft and BBC Music editor Rory Connolly. Following the recent release of her debut EP, Our Friends Pt I, she has been welcomed into the fold of London-based indie label, wiaiwya.

The music begins with an inquisitive guitar line, interwoven with a cacophony of vocal harmonies, building and rising, laying the foundations for this simple, delicate and revealing song. With reference to artists such as John Martyn, Rozi Plain and Bombay Bicycle Club, Tristram’s musical and lyrical authenticity remains a consistent feature of her work. She has begun to draw attention in the music industry with some impressive previews and appearances: a sold-out show at London’s award-winning live music venue The Green Note and surprising fans with an unexpected feature on BBC Sound’s November 2019 HotList.

Lila’s personal reflections on the song make it clear how much power it holds for her. “This song is about endings. It’s about regrets, acceptance and trying to say goodbye.”

Having already collaborated with the likes of Austin Basham, Alex Kozobolis and The Last Dinosaur, and performed alongside artists such as Rosie Lowe, Puma Blue and Another Sky, Lila’s future is very promising indeed.
