#195 - Defining Your Brand As An Artist

We think it is important to look at three things when considering your brand as an artist:

  1. The Music

How does the music look? What colour is this genre? What would a photoshoot of the music look like? Consider how the music effects the choice in: Colour palette, photo location, fashion, styling and the typography. E.g. Heavy Metal music does not ’look’ like Pop music; we wouldn’t associate pink with Ozzy Osbourne

  2. The Artist

The artist themselves are the integral part of their brand, not just their music. The artist’s beliefs, personality, attitude, style, what they say, how they say it, their motivations… Humans connect with humans… What do you believe in? What causes are close to your heart? What do you enjoy doing? Who are your influences? What are your ambitions? What drives you?

  3. The Target Audience

Who are your audience? Where do they live? How old are they? What other artists do they listen to? How do they listen? What do they listen for? Your brand should be appropriate for and fit the audience. Social media stats and Spotify for artists can provide you with some of this data.
