#283 - Top Tips For A Waterfall Release Strategy
What is it?
A waterfall release strategy is when an EP or album has the appearance of being released gradually, with one track added at a time until the full release is made available when the final track is added.
Advantages
To optimize Spotify’s algorithm. The streaming platform is looking for exponential growth in streams and does not like drops in streams and listeners. Continuous streaming of your work allows for greater visibility of your music to the platform’s users. Another advantage is to get into editorial playlists. With this strategy of releasing successive singles, you’ll be able to pitch each of your songs on Spotify for Artists and thus increase your chances of getting into editorial playlists.
Song order matters
The hierarchical order of the songs in the waterfall strategy will allow the first single released (Single A) to have a greater exponential growth of streams by simply appearing at the top every time you release a new track. It’s like re-releasing your singles with each release. This happens most of the time, but of course, your other singles could end up generating more streams than single A.
Technicalities
The technical part is very simple, you just have to choose ‘single’ as output format and add the file of your new single as well as the one of the previous one. You have to be careful to use the same file, the same ISRC code, title, and contributors to get the streams.
