#59 Izzie Yardley - I'm Still Here

Having already been picked up by BBC introducing, Indie-folk songstress, Izzie Yardley, is back with her new single I’m Still Here. This acoustic new track magnifies Izzie’s honest tone with heart-felt lyrics accompanied by sombre strings providing a dark but beautiful second voice.

After experiencing a loss of a dear friend just two days after she completed the single, Izzie is dedicating all proceeds from I’m Still Here on Bandcamp towards MND Association – a charity which funds and promotes research into Motor Neurone Disease, providing support to people all across the UK.

“Although originally inspired by the confused life of lockdown, I realised I was talking more widely about the feeling of loss we endure throughout life. This could be the death of a loved one, the ending of a relationship, the loss of childhood. When lockdown happened in the UK there has been an underlying feeling of loss of what we knew to be ‘normal’ life. Then there are some who have lost people they loved, been unable to go to funerals, unable to physically comfort one another. In a similar way we’ve seen the resurgence of the Black Lives Matter movement, fuelled by the death of George Floyd. That is huge collective grief happening right now” – Izzie

In the months leading up to the UK lockdown Izzie was found selling out a headline show at Spiritual Bar in London, supporting Ethan Johns & The Black Eyed Dogs, Maz O’Connor and playing Union Chapel with Letters Live. However, fortunately for us, the pandemic has not suppressed Izzie’s sensational ability to produce breathtaking music. Although it was recorded in a socially distanced setting with Daniel Pinni - Cellist, and Georgina Leach - Violinist, I’m Still Here fully accomplishes the intimate feel that Izzie desired.

“It’s been a fast turn-around for me, essentially writing, recording and releasing within a couple of months. But it felt important to give it to people now, while we’re still in flux and the need for hope is immense” – Izzie

Izzie is the first ever artist to appear on Laid Bare’s ‘Get to Know’ series which was launched earlier this month. You can check out her beautiful and unique rendition of Cattails by Big Thief on our Instagram page.

I’m Still Here is out now and available on Spotify, Bandcamp and Amazon Music.
