#88 Mathilde Bataillé and Joseph Futak - Entertain the Thought
London based Mathilde Bataillé and Joseph Futak have collaborated to produce an effortlessly mesmerising single, Entertain the Thought. The artists voices are perfectly matched, combining melancholic words with evocative harmonies to create a sincere and beautiful sound.
Bataillé and Futak’s collaboration became inevitable having met during their time at Goldsmith’s University. The multi-talented musicians found common ground in their love for artists such as Alex G, Frank Ocean and Big Thief. Fortunately, after years of gigging around the South East London circuit, the pair reunited to write Entertain the Thought.
Shifting through psychedelic rumination, every exchange between the two musicians is seamless and confessional. Their musicianship is unfathomable, co-producing and engineering the track within a matter of days. Written during the heatwave of last summer, Entertain the Thought pertains to feelings of solitude and isolation, a sentiment still widely significant today.
“I don’t want to entertain the thought / I don’t want to get caught in the idea / restless in bed between fantasy and fear/ It’s true and embarrassing / but that is it / presented.”
The song swells in an unreserved refrain justifying that to express one’s thoughts and feelings are as valuable as ever in this period of uncertainty. The pair provide a staggering musical partnership filled with exciting production, leaving the listener mused with the desire to hear more.
