#108 OCEAN - Train Wreck

London-based OCEAN is back with a catchy new single Train Wreck. The track follows the release of It’s Not About earlier this year which presents a more modest tone. OCEAN exhibits a fiercer sound in Train Wreck, harnessing a jazz-infused accompaniment accented by the opening blues bass-line and funky brass fragments. Written and recorded in The Netherlands in the height of lockdown with producer Pat Smith, the track was influenced by old-school hip-hop alongside artists such as Olivia Dean and Mac Ayres. The instrumentation is complimented by a faultless vocal performance, with all elements of Train Wreck perfectly executing OCEAN’s aspiration for the track being one listener’s can “vibe to”.  Her lyricism perfectly captures the tracks sentiment, expressing frustration when receiving mixed signals in relationships:

“I’m a train wreck in the night, love me or leave me I’d rather be free”

Inspired by her classical background, the sound created by Dutch soul-pop artist OCEAN is both unique and eclectic. Having written and performed her music for 10 years Train Wreck is a formidable step forward for OCEAN and showcases the eclectic London-influenced sound she has developed over the years.

This vibey new track was one of the additions for this week’s Laid Bare Selections playlist, make sure to have a listen here.

Train Wreck is available on all streaming platforms, check it out below.
