#132 William Poyer - Lightning

London-based Americana Folk singer William Poyer’s latest release Lightning is the second single from his wildly anticipated EP, set for release later this year.

The forthcoming EP sees Poyer explore a more soulful contemporary sound whilst maintaining what’s true to him. Poyer’s distinctive sound conjures up the modern world with a nod to times gone by - William's songs have been described as a blend of real-life storytelling with an intimate folk sensibility, driven by strong rhythms and melodic hooks.

Lightning sees Poyer explore the theme of fearlessness in this powerful song about self-belief. The song focuses on contrasting mindsets between men with one becoming almost superhuman. There is an otherworldly feel to Lightning, and that is no coincidence. Poyer wanted to write a song that felt like a western set in a post-apocalyptic world. It was this theme and reference to old westerns that came to the fore in the collaboration with producer Archie Sylvester.

The EP was recorded at Mill Town Studios in Wiltshire, at the studio of friends and collaborators Ferris & Sylvester, and Sylvester, took the song to a whole new level with his unconventional arrangement, including tribal influenced backing vocals and an Ennio Morricone inspired bridge section.

After regularly selling out live performances at Camden’s Spiritual Bar, further live performances of his new material, including at The Swansea Fringe Festival, are to follow… so keep an eye out!
