#125 - 4 Ways to Identify Your Fans
Keep an eye on your interactions. Fans like to feel like they have a connection to the artist, so they’ll often interact with your account a lot more than any other user. If they see you respond and acknowledge them, they’ll keep doing it even more. Build those relationships as they’ll often last a lifetime.
Check your indirects. Indirects are times when people mention you, your music or your content without tagging you directly. This could be positive or negative, so brace yourself but we’re looking for the positives here. Your fans will be indirectly sharing your music and talking about you. Sometimes they might even suggest things they wish you’d do or offer - It’s a great way to infiltrate your fandom and find out what they want.
Start a newsletter. If someone is willing to give you their email address in exchange for news about you, incentive or no incentive, they’re a fan. Use that newsletter to keep them up to date and to give them exclusive information and access. Check who opens and who clicks on the links you provide. Most email marketing providers will create a point system to subscribers who interact the most.
Don’t underestimate yourself: everyone has fans, even if you’re just starting out. Your fans can be found at unexpected places so make sure to keep an eye out and believe. Nurture those relationships as they’ll be the most valuable to you as an artist.
