#44 DREUW - Heavy

From picking up a guitar for the first time in his University halls, singer-songwriter DREUW has crafted a unique, emotional style of music that communicates with reflection, honesty and healing. Based in Leeds, DREUW’S music demonstrates the intimacy and tenderness of his experiences through a raw, yet ethereal, delivery that has been compared to the likes of Bon Iver and RY X.

His new single, Heavy, explores the highs and lows of relationships with both himself and others, expressing discoveries from love and togetherness, to the anxieties and pressures of keeping things afloat. A specific focus on the standpoint of an individual trying to endure supporting the mental health of his other half, to the detriment of his own. A mature sound and narrative that demonstrates how far his music has come. After recently speaking with DREUW, he gave me an insight into his new single:

“The attentiveness shown from society on those who suffer with mental health is hugely important, as it should be, yet we sometimes forget to consider the weight that it can place onto those closest to them. I guess it’s a feeling of isolation and helplessness that is consuming the romantic partner in this instance. They’re yearning for a sign that the love once there is not lost.

Whilst Dreuw is relatively new to the scene, he has still secured commendable appearances at Sofar Sounds events and achieved airtime on BBC Introducing in the West. As well as this, Dreuw was nominated by London’s Resonance FM for Glastonbury’s Talent Longlist in 2017.
