#31 Matilda Mann - Nothing at All

With only a few singles to her name, 19 year old Matilda Mann has already established herself as an experienced songwriter. Her debut single, Never Sweeter, and her follow up, The Loch Ness Monster, provided an insight into Matilda’s sophisticated and emotive style of writing. Her most recent instalment, Nothing at All, continues to showcase her remarkably refreshing sound.

As a result of Luke Bower (Lucy Lu) and Matilda’s vocal combination, Nothing at All has a beautiful delicacy to it. The song begins with steady, echoing guitar plucks that drive the song perfectly into Matilda’s swaying vocals. A self-assured transition that sets the peaceful tone of the song.

Lyrically, it seems that Matilda is contemplating about whether she wants to remain within a relationship. “Are you really worth the fight?” and “I know nothing at all” suggests that Matilda may be torn between her thoughts around commitment. Honest lyricism that charmingly accompanies the instrumental artistry of the single.

Matilda is set to play the Servant Jazz Quarters on Wednesday 12th February. Tickets can be found here.

Nothing at All is part of her if that makes sense EP, which will be released in the near future. Have a listen to the new single below:
