#163 NIKKITA - We Are Not Okay

In this week’s artist blog feature, we’re delighted to introduce you to London-based artist, NIKKITA, and her latest single, We Are Not Okay. With past releases garnering the attention of industry platforms - Vibez Music and Couch Mag - NIKKITA is definitely an artist you’ll want to keep tabs on.

With a voice that steers away from pop convention, NIKKITA brings a modern take on nostalgia, blending introspective pop with Lana Del Rey strings and Billie Eilish bass. Beginning her artist project during lockdown, she began honing her sound after battling with what she refers to as a “black cloud moment.”

That’s why NIKKITA’s musical process is a means of therapy in which she captures her story of all-consuming relationships, heartache and losing your sense of purpose. We Are Not Okay was written with exactly this therapeutic effect in mind. It succeeds in encapsulating how many people, especially creatives, were feeling during lockdown.

“I’ve always admired artists that don’t fit in a box”, says NIKKITA, “all I want is my music to represent our growth as humans, so to expect anyone to fit in one box doesn’t sit right with me.”
