#134 - Top 6 Tips For The Beginner Producer
1. Focus On One Skill At A Time - The production process has many parts so honing in on one element of the process in depth can make it feel less overwhelming.
2. Be Patient - Take your time with it. It’s a skill that can’t be learned overnight. Trust the effort, hard work and focus you are putting into the process to pay off!
3. Find Reference Tracks - Pick apart each element in your favourite tracks. Maybe in one track, you like the drumbeat, and in another the vocal arrangement. This will help you understand how a track is built!
4. Practice - This goes without saying, but putting time aside every day to practice in your DAW can go a long way. Even if it’s just making a MIDI melody, or figuring out what a particular plugin or effect does!
5. Back-up Your Work - Save, save, save! Duplicate your projects onto an external hard drive and preferably a cloud-based service to back up your computer.
6. Have Fun - Explore and experiment with different, plugins, effects, and styles of music. This can be a great process in discovering what you like and nurturing your distinctive style!
You are not going to be making professional records overnight or even a year from now, and that’s okay! Time and patience are necessary to succeed as an artist. Don’t be discouraged if you aren’t making the music that you know you could be making. Trust that with time, hard work, and patience that you can achieve your music production goals.
