#109 - 5 Growth Tips for Independent Artists

Network!

Get involved in conversations both online and in person; attend events, like / comment / respond to chains on social media and let people know who you are!

Take Branding Seriously.

Strong branding and a good aesthetic will do wonders for your growth. Branding is all about finding a way to tell everyone who you are and give them an idea of what you sound like before they have even listened to your music. Making yourself memorable and drawing people in is very important. If you don’t know where to start, take inspiration from those whom you admire.

Let People Know Where to Find You and Make it Easy.

Make sure to broadcast yourself and put your links everywhere! People are lazy, and unless you lay everything out in front of them, they may not look hard to find you. Keep a strong social media presence so that when people DO find you , they know they have the right place.

Collaborate.

The easiest most organic way to share fan-bases. Working with other artists is a great way not only to grow your audience, but also to allow for some personal growth by challenging your way of working. This doesn’t have to be limited to a musical collaboration, you could reach out to other creative and try working on a multidisciplinary project such as an art installation or film. Host a Competition!

Hosting give-aways is a great way to get people involved in what you do. If you host a competition on social media, get fans to tag their friends to enter, that way you will have a wider reach - no effort required!
