Following the release of Willie J Healey’s most recent EP, Hello Good Morning, the Oxfordshire singer-songwriter is back with another smooth indie-pop track; Why You Gotta Do It.

Willie’s unique style is very prominent in Why You Gotta Do It. A warm, vibrant track that playfully sounds like it was written in another era. Slick guitars and gospel choirs display Willie’s ability to create plush, psychedelic sounding harmonies that really set the scene. A laidback approach that is conveyed in the music video.

Whilst the song feels carefree, lyrically Willie is tackling some genuine topics throughout. Straight away the track shares that ‘Money doesn't make you happy, it can’t save you from your mental health’. Serious topics that Willie doesn’t seem shy to preach upon. Especially with the prominence of the gospel choir belting out the lyrics alongside him, the freeing message of this track is delivered perfectly. According to Willie, cash doesn’t seem to matter in the grand scheme of things.

Why You Gotta Do It is the first single released from Willie’s upcoming second album which is set to be released later this year. He is also set to go out on tour, tickets can be found here.
